Vulgar Vulture's last
sortie was an attack on the ordnance depot at Amberg-Kummersbruck, Germany,
on April 9, 1945.
Slotted in the No. 4 position in the last of seven flights, the mission
appeared to be a milk run. On the bomb run the flight was attacked twice
by German ME-262 jet fighters. Vulgar Vulture was shot down on the
initial attack and crashed in a fiery ball of flames. Only one parachute
was observed. The crew were:
